Listening. Leading. Delivering for Kennebunk.

Running to represent Kennebunk District 135

About Lisa Joy

I grew up in small-town New England, and when my husband and I had the chance to come back, we took it. We chose Kennebunk because we wanted our kids to grow up the same way we did: independent, outdoors, and part of a real community. Watching them bike to the skate park, grab ice cream at Dairy Queen, explore the beaches and Hope Woods trails is what makes this place special to me. It’s why I care so deeply about protecting it.

Serving on the Select Board showed me how much decisions made in Augusta shape our daily lives. I’ve seen how policies that look good on paper can miss the mark for communities like ours. I’m running because I believe Kennebunk deserves someone who stays grounded here, listens, and brings your voice into the conversation. This is my home, and my focus is simple: make sure state decisions actually work for us.

Before moving to Maine, I spent 15 years in a Level 1 trauma center, often leading in high-pressure situations where calm, clear thinking mattered more than anything else. That experience turned me into a practical, steady, and people-focused leader. The biggest challenge I see ahead is climate change: it’s already affecting our coast, our economy, and our future. We need to strengthen our resilience to protect what we have while the cost is still manageable, rather than wait for disaster to become prohibitively expensive.

  • I absolutely loved being on the front lines of healthcare. The energy of an Emergency Department is unmatched. I thrived in the high stress environment and was not afraid to take charge.

  • I am committed to serving Kennebunk in Augusta. Maine is important to me, but Kennebunk is more important. This is my community where I have chosen to raise my children. I want it to be the best place possible.

What Matters Most

Local Control

I’ve seen firsthand how decisions made in Augusta can create real challenges for towns like ours. I believe local communities should have a stronger voice in the decisions that affect them. I’ll work to make sure state policies respect local needs, resources, and realities, and that they actually work on the ground!

Being There for You

My priority has always been to connect with the people around me, listen to what they need, and develop a way forward. in the Emergency Department and on the Select Board, that’s been my way of working. I want to bring that to Augusta so you know you always have someone on your side who will listen to what’s on your mind and work to make your day a little better.

Saltwater & Flooding Preparation

Our coastal communities are already feeling the effects of rising seas and saltwater intrusion. I’m focused on making sure we’re not reacting after the fact, but planning ahead—protecting our infrastructure, our drinking water, and the places that make this community what it is. That means investing in resilience now so we’re not paying a higher price later.

Drought Resilience

While we sometimes have too much water in the form of floods and saltwater intrusion, we’ve also been seeing more and longer droughts. Water shortages, stressed ecosystems, impacts on our local food systems and the natural gems that define our town. I want to make sure we’re prepared for drought conditions by supporting smart water management, protecting our natural resources, and planning for long-term sustainability.
